Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.
Today I am sharing with you the books I wish could have had sequels. I really enjoy standalones and the freedom they bring of not having to wait a year or years to find out what actually happens. However, there are some stories that I would just love to see more of the characters. These are in no particular order!
Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell: One of the first books I thought of that I want a sequel to. Are you listening Rainbow?! This book was so perfect and emotional, but those three little words just left me wanting more!
Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan: I thought this was a really beautiful story, and had some really awesome characters. Tony especially could do with his own book, and it would be great to see more of Paul and Noah.
Between the Lines by Jodi Picoult and Samantha van Leer: To anyone who hasn’t read this already, READ IT. It is the perfect book for readers, as the book characters COME ALIVE. Who wouldn’t want more book characters coming to life?!
Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend by Matthew Dicks: Although I don’t think the book really warrants a sequel, it is written so beautifully. The concept and voice is so unique, that I think I would love more books from this perspective.
Half Brother by Kenneth Oppel and Ape House by Sara Gruen: Both these books have an entirely different writing style, but they contain a common theme: MONKEYS. I just adore reading about apes and their ability to communicate with humans. More monkey books please!
Thats my choices this week. But wait, I hear you say, thats only five (technically six)! Well, in my opinion, virtually all books have sequels nowadays. And those that don’t either are for good reason (because I didn’t particularly enjoy them) or are just perfect entities that I just don’t wish to see more of. But more than likely they already have a sequel. Do you prefer a series or standalone? Do you agree/disagree with my choices? Link me to your TTT below!
Boy Meets Boy made my list as well…I really want a book about Infinite Darlene, haha! I still need to read Eleanor & Park, I’m thinking it may be a Bout of Books read for me…
FYI, YOU NEED TO GET ON THAT. Seriously!! And yay for Boy Meets Boy. I’d even settle for a film….. 😀
I found out whilst doing my list that I read a lot more series than I realised. I’d love a sequel to Eleanor & Park. I haven’t read the Jodi Picoult/Samantha van Leer book but I really want to now!
Yes! Me too! This was a lot harder than I thought for. More standalones please! I think alot of people avoid Between The Lines because of Jodi Picoult, but it is a really beautiful and the illustrations in the hardback are AWESOME.
I cheated and went for some series I wish continued haha. It was hard to think of 10 standalones. Glad to see Boy Meets Boy and E&P on your list, love both of those
Cait x
CHEATER! I didn’t think of that…. *doh*
I need to read Eleanor & Park, I think it’s been on everyone’s list! Although that makes me a bit nervous.
An Eleanor & Park sequel would be amazing and Rainbow has said that she’d like to write one that’s set now. That would be so awesome!
Great choices, Debbie!
