Firstly, lots of goodies from the library this fortnight. Starting with Slated and Fractured by Teri Terry. I loved Slated, but read it so long ago I can’t remember what happens. So I will be having a double read to remind myself. Ketchup Clouds by Annabel Pitcher was the winner of the Waterstones’ Childrens Book Prize, so I wanted to see what the fuss was about.

Intrusion by Ken MacLeod is an adult book that sounds quite dystopian. I had taken out the hardback, but when I saw my library was getting a paperback I decided to put my name down for that instead. They are just so much easier to handle. The Baby Diaries by Sam Binnie is a book that my mum enjoyed, and I love a good girly book (especially about babies), so I ordered this one. A book that I very nearly bought a couple of weeks ago in Waterstones is Unremembered by Jessica Brody. It sounds a bit like the TV show ‘Lost’, which I adored, so I’m looking forward to checking this out. The last library book is ‘Boy Meets Boy‘ by David Levithan, ordered for the LGBT marathon hosted by Faye of A Daydreamer’s Thoughts. I don’t think I’ve every read any of his books, though a few are on my TBR list, such as Every Day.

Books that I received this week include New Girl by Paige Harbison and The Iron King by Julie Kagawa. I won these from Becky at Becky’s Barmy Book Blog for her Spring Clean giveaway. I really loved The Immortal Rules, so I’m excited to see what Julie’s other series is liked. I’m really enjoying Mira Ink’s books at the moment, so fingers crossed for this and New Girl. Becky was kind enough to throw in some bookmarks and badges too which was really sweet. And did I mention the Julie Kagawa is hardback? And glittery! *drools* Thanks very much Becky 🙂

The second and third Metawars books by Jeff Norton, The Dead are Rising and Battle of the Immortal, were sent for review from Rebecca at Hachette. I really enjoyed the first book but wanted more from the characters, so I’m excited to hopefully see their development in the next two! Thanks very much Rebecca for these shiny beauties.

Last week I was luckily enough to meet Andy Robb, author of Geekhood: Close Encounters of the Girl Kind and Geekhood: Mission Improbable. Shamefully, I have yet to read the first book, even though I got in in my birthday haul early this year. Luckily, Andy forgave me (I think!) and signed both books (I had with me the first, and bought the second there). He was really lovely, and perhaps one of the nicest, most natural authors I have ever met. We talked for ages, and yet it still felt like I could talk more. From publishers to cover design, blogging and holidays, you name it. He was very nice, which made me feel extra guilty for not having read his books!

While in Waterstones, I also picked up Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan. I really want to read all of John Green’s books, so owning them is a good start. Oh, and my copy of Geography Club by Brent Hartinger finally came! This is also for Faye’s readathon. I was surprised at how small the book is, but I want to read it before the film is released, so it serves a double purpose 🙂

Ebooks:

Being Henry David

When Love Comes to Town
Thanks to Netgalley and Open Road Media for Being Henry David by Cal Armistead and When Love Comes to Town by Tom Lennon.

Animate MeLove is a Thief

I’m taking part in the blog tour for Animate Me by Ruth Clampett, so look out for my review in a few weeks! The cover is so adorable.

Love is a Thief by Claire Garber is a book I’ve had my eye on for a while. So thanks to Harlequin and Netgalley for this!

FangirlAnd last, but certainly NOT least, Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell!!! Although this book isn’t released till September, someone tweeted on Thursday evening that it was on Netgalley. Two minutes later, I had requested it, and thinking about the agony of waiting for the approval/denial. But then when the same person (I can’t remember who!) said they had been approved, it cued my frantic email refreshing. And I did get approved! And I finished it last night. WHAT A WHIRLWIND. St Martin’s Press, I owe you my heart for letting me read this, and approving so quickly.

What did you receive this week? Have you read any of my books and do you think it should be at the top or the bottom of my to read pile? Do you think its shameful to go to an author event without having read their book(s)? I’d love to hear from you!

Welcome to my 2-week haul post!

P1050186

Lots of library love this week! 5 books I had requested and one I picked up. The Accidental Naturalist by Ben Fogle and Choir by Gareth Malone are both autobiographies, and ordered because I love them both! I have been waiting for Gareth’s book since Christmas, so I am excited to finally be able to read it.

I adore Jodi Picout’s books. They just evoke such emotions, and always talk about issues, which I love in books. The Storyteller promises to be no different, and some people have said it is her best yet.

Lots of people have been receiving proofs of the new book by Tanya Byrne, and I still haven’t read her first! So I thought it was time I changed that. Hence the ordering of Heart-Shaped Bruise.

Last but not least, I picked up a copy of Keeping You a Secret by Julie Peters. This is for the LGBT readathon I am doing, hosted by Faye of A Daydreamer’s Thoughts. It’s a genre I am immensely interested in, but have hardly read anything for! Lookout for lots of LGBT themed posts and reviews in the first weekend of May.

P1050187I also made a few purchases! Faye did an amazing review of The Secret of Ella and Micha (check it out here) by Jessica Sorensen and so when I saw it in Tesco I snapped it up. I also got The Antenatal Group by Amy Bratley as it was on offer, and I will read anything about babies.

Yet another trip to The Works, yet another bargain book haul. I picked up Someone Else’s Life by Katie Dale as I had seen it about, so I thought it was worth getting. I was delighted to find Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi. I have never read her books, but I know they are talked about a lot by bloggers. I spent about ten minutes trying to decipher which was the first in the series, and thankfully came home with the right one! Before I Forget by Melissa Hill was thrown in to make up the offer, and sounds like a cute amnesia romance.

My last physical books was gifted from Daphne at Winged Reviews. Her and Faye have been raving about Julie Kagawa’s books to me. I managed to get The Immortal Rules in my last bookshop visit, and so she kindly offered to send me a copy of The Eternity Cure so I don’t have to wait to find out what happens! I am loving The Immortal Rules at the moment, so thanks very much for this 🙂

Ebooks:

The 5th Wave (The Fifth Wave, #1)

Ink (Paper Gods, #1)

Thank you to Penguin and Netgalley for The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey. I was quite surprised to be approved for this. It sounds like a really good action, dystopian post-apocalyptic kind of novel, which suits my current mood perfectly, so I may be reading this soon!

Ink by Amanda Sun has such a pretty cover. I was psyched to get this, as I’ve heard lots of good things so far! Thanks Harlequin and Netgalley.

Screwed

Submerged (Outbreak, #1)

Books about teenage pregnancy always pique my interest, and Screwed by Laurie Plissner is no different. Thanks to Adams Media and Netgalley for a copy of this.

I’m taking part in the blog tour with Itching for Books for Submerged by Nicola Sobon. The first in a dystopian duology, I can’t wait to read this. Check back on May 13th for my review!

Wait for You (Wait for You, #1)

The Forgotten Ones

Amy from Harper Collins kindly sent me access to Wait For You by Jennifer L Armentrout. It is my first book by her, but I have heard lots of talk about her Lux series, so I’m interested to see what this is like.

I’m also part of The Forgotten Ones blog tour by Laura Howard. I love the typography on the title.

Find Me

Make it Last (Friends & Lovers, #1)

The cover for Find Me by Romily Bernard is just so awesome. And the tagline too! HUGE thank you to Harper Collins and Edelweiss for this, it sounds amazing. I love YA thrillers, and I can’t wait to start this.

I won a copy of Bethany Lopez’s Make It Last from Neyra at Darkest Addictions. I think I have a copy of the second book, so I asked if I could have the first instead of the third, and they kindly obliged!

What did you receive this week? Have you read any of my books and do you think it should be at the top or the bottom of my to read pile? I’d love to hear from you!

Letterbox Love #12

Letterbox Love is a meme hosted by Lynsey of Narratively Speaking whereby book lovers can exhibit the books they received this week.

This is a 2 week compilation as I didn’t have time to post last week. However, my haul is tiny compared to that of my birthday-week. First the print books I received:

P1050104

From the library I got ‘When I Fall in Love‘ Miranda Dickinson. It’s a book that my mum enjoyed, and is perfect for the snowy weather! ‘You Had Me at Hello‘ by Mhairi McFarlane has a really cute cover, and is a book that I have heard lots about. Unfortunately lots of other people think so too, as it has a huge waiting list! I better read this quick.

My first winning book ‘Send Me a Sign‘ by Tiffany Schmidt came this week! Aylee from Recovering Potter Addict let me choose any book and it took me aaaages but I finally decided on this one, as I have heard good reviews and I LOVE YA cancer books (though that sounds pretty morbid!). A huge thank you to Aylee for this 😀

For my ebook collection:

Dear Cassie

Dear Cassie‘ and ‘The Next Forever‘, both by Lisa Burstein were sent to me to review for the author via twitter. I adore the cover for ‘Dear Cassie’ and have been waiting for it for ages so it is nice to add it to my collection. ‘The Next Forever’ is actually a sequel to ‘Pretty Amy‘ which I haven’t read, but I’m going to read it anyway so I can post my review soon.

I Choose You (Friends & Lovers, #2)

Catching Jordan (Hundred Oaks, #1)

I also won a copy of I Choose You‘ by Bethany Lopez who sent me a copy personally. Likewise, I haven’t read the first one but fingers crossed it doesn’t make too much of a difference.

Renae from Rolling With the Moments has sent me a copy of ‘Catching Jordan‘ by Miranda Kenneally from her Best of 2012 Giveaway. Thank you very much for this, and even better it is the first in the series! Yay! I just need to figure out how to send an epub to my kindle and I will be extremely happy!

Dare You To (Pushing the Limits, #2)

Thanks to Netgalley and Harlequin for ‘Dare You To‘ by Kate McGarry. I have been dying to read ‘Pushing the Limits‘, but I stupidly sent it to my tablet instead of my kindle, and there’s no way (that I know of) to send it over. But I must force myself to read that first. The cover looks awesome, and very steamy!

What did you receive this week? Have you read any of my books and do you think it should be at the top or the bottom of my to read pile? I’d love to hear from you!

Letterbox Love #11

Letterbox Love is a meme hosted by Lynsey of Narratively Speaking whereby book lovers can exhibit the books they received this week.

An impressive haul this week 😀 It was my birthday yesterday, so a trip to Waterstones was a must! First the library love:

P1050103

The Sky Is Everywhere‘ by Jandy Nelson is on my to-read list. So if I physically hold the book, there’s more chance of me reading it….right? This is the only book I collected this week as I am trying very hard to get my library pile down!

Now for ebooks! I was extremely excited to get my first Edelweiss acceptance this week, and it seems HarperCollins must love me! I got accepted for ‘Period 8‘ by Chris Crutcher, ‘Mila 2.0‘ by Debra Driza, ‘Pivot Point‘ by Kasie West and ‘Pretty Girl-13‘ by Liz Coley. All four are books I have heard lots about and sound AMAZING so I am extremely grateful! I had to resist starting Mila 2.0 last night, as I have a couple of others that need to come first. Much much love for Harper Collins though, as this was a wonderful gift. *Swoons*

Period 8   MILA 2.0 (MILA 2.0, #1)   Pretty Girl-13   Pivot Point (Pivot Point, #1)

Speechless

Thanks to Netgalley and Harlequin for ‘Speechless‘ by Hannah Harrington. It feels like this book has been on my to-read list FOREVER so I was really pleased to get this. It sounds very gripping, and I’m sure I will devour it! Warm Bodies (Warm Bodies #1)

I was also quite shocked to get accepted for ‘Warm Bodies‘ by Isaac Marion. Thanks to Netgalley and Random House. I was a bit unsure about this one but there is a lot of hype so it made me intrigued. I never usually get accepted by Random House so it is much appreciated!

And now for the ones I bought! This is quite bad of me, but there are soooooo many new books out there that I want to read, and many that my local library doesn’t have. In my defence, I got some in the sale, and most of the others were buy one, get one half price. I had no choice! So here are the ones I bought yesterday:

P1050101

Yay for John Green! I adored ‘A Fault in Their Stars’, so I grabbed the opportunity to read another of his novels. And the cover for ‘Looking For Alaska‘ is so pretty! I had a bit of a dilemma between this and ‘an Abundance of Katherines’, but I hope I made the right choice. I also picked up ‘City of Shadows‘ by Alex Scarrow (Time Riders 6) as I have some of the other Timeriders so this will go nicely with my collection.

I also took advantage of this trip to pick up ‘Love Virtually‘ by Daniel Glattauer. I am totally in love with this book, and its sequel ‘Every Seventh Wave, which I reviewed earlier this week here. I implore you to read it!

Two that I picked up that I haven’t read before are ‘From What I Remember‘ by Stacy Kramer and Valerie Thomas and ‘Partials‘ by Dan Wells. The first just sounded really fun, a good beach read, and like it might have some laughs too! Conversely, I wanted ‘Partials’ as it sounded like a good dystopian novel. And I think you can never have too many of them in your life!

P1050102

Never ending books, hehe. ‘Second Chance Summer‘ by Morgan Matson was I book I was/am really looking forward to. I love reading books about illness and such things, especially YA, so this is really up my street. I chose ‘Geekhood: Close Encounters of the Girl Kind‘ by Andy Robb firstly for its quirky cover, and because its always fun to read a boy’s perspective on girls. I think everyone should read books once in a while that make them smile, and this looks like that type of book!

Finally ‘Before I Die‘ by Jenny Downham (already read), ‘Perfect Chemistry‘ by Simone Elkeles and ‘Perfect Match‘ by Jodi Picoult because who can resist a bargain! Yay for sale books! And because of my book buying excellence, a £10 voucher from the lovely people at Waterstones for spending so much money. What an excuse to buy more books….

What did you receive this week? Have you read any of my books and do you think it should be at the top or the bottom of my to read pile? I’d love to hear from you!

Letterbox Love #9

Letterbox Love is a meme hosted by Lynsey of Narratively Speaking whereby book lovers can exhibit the books they received this week.

Sorry for the lack of posting this week. What with my new job and Christmas, I haven’t had a moment spare. But I promise I will catch up over the xmas break, as I have lots of reviews for you! This is a double mailbox as I didn’t post last week, but it’s not a very big one anyway!

First for the library gems:

P1050071

My good librarian friend recommended ‘Mortal Chaos‘ by Matt Dickinson, and it is on my to-read list for this week. I also stole a proof copy of ‘Meta-Wars‘ by Jeff Norton, as the cover looks good!

Two books I’ve had on order for a whole are ‘Vets in Love‘ by Cathy Woodman (gotta love a good Christmas romance!) and Sally Gardner’s ‘Maggot Moon‘. I can’t remember why I ordered this, I think it may have been a likeness to Pallacio’s ‘Wonder’, but I’ll have to wait and see.

Geek Girl

Confessions of an Angry Girl (Confessions, #1)

Geek Girl‘ by Holly Smale was

obtained from HarperCollins via Netgalley. The cover of this looks amazing; a geeky cool girl? If only… I have already started this one, and so far so good!

A similar-sounding book is ‘Confessions of an Angry Girl
‘ by Louise Rozett. Thanks to Netgalley and Harlequin for this.

What did you receive this week? Have you read any of my books and do you think it should be at the top or the bottom of my to read pile? I’d love to hear from you!

Letterbox Love #8

Letterbox Love is a meme hosted by Lynsey of Narratively Speaking whereby book lovers can exhibit the books they received this week.

An epic library haul this week 😀

P1050066Firstly something festive; ‘A Merry Little Christmas‘ by Julia Williams. Doesn’t that cover make you feel all Christmassy? Also Alison Mercer’s ‘Stop the Clock‘, because I love an intriguing book. The next three are all a bit of a cheat; they are books I already had from the library in hardback, but I’ve ordered the paperback as it’s easier for the commute!

The Chocolate Lover’s Club‘ by Carole Matthews, ‘Lone Wolf’ by Jodi Picoult and ‘Meet me at the Cupcake Cafe‘ by Jenny Colgan have all been on my tbr shelf for a while. I love a good chick flick to separate my YA/dystopian stuff.

And because I was seriously missing out on some YA stuff, I borrowed (read: stole!) two books from my good librarian friend.

P1050068

Breathe‘ by Sarah Crossan has been on my want list for ages, so when I discovered she had a proof copy hanging around, I had to get my hands on it! The only sad part is this doesn’t have a pretty cover. Likewise, Cat Clarke’s ‘Undone‘ is one I am very excited about, and I can’t believe I have a copy! Fingers crossed it lives up to my expectations.

Now for ebooks!

The Sea of Tranquility

Thanks to Netgalley and Atria Books for ‘The Sea of Tranquillity‘ by Katja Millay. It’s not a book I’ve heard of, but the blurb sounds like my kind of read!

Chocolate-Covered BaloneyChocolate-covered Baloney‘ by KD McCrite sounds like a funny diary-type novel. Thanks to Thomas Nelson and Netgalley. I didn’t realise this was part of a series, but I hope it won’t matter!

Parallel Visions

The cover for this one is stunning, thanks to JKS Communications and Netgalley for ‘Parallel Visions‘ by Cheryl Rainfield.

Model Spy (The Specialists, #1)Ditto the thanks for ‘Model Spy‘ by Shannon Greenland. Squee! This book looks similar to Ally Carter’s spy series at first glance, but I love a powerful female lead!

Pushing the Limits (Pushing the Limits, #1)

You have no idea my level of excitement when I found I was approved for ‘Pushing the Limits‘ by Katie McGarry! I have heard much good things about this steamy read! Many, many thanks to Harlequin and Netgalley!

Another 365 Days

I am always intrigued by YA LGBT novels, as I don’t really think there are many good books out there. But can ‘Another 365 days‘ by Ke Payne meet my expectations? Thanks to Bold Strokes and Netgalley.

Phew! What a list! I’ve gotta storm through ‘A Merry Little Christmas’ and the two proofs and then I think I will knuckle down with my ebooks. Please let me know your opinions on the above if you’ve already read them!

What did you receive this week? Have you read any of my books and do you think it should be at the top or the bottom of my to read pile? I’d love to hear from you!
