Book Blitz: Keeping Her

Eek! I’m so excited for Keeping Her by Cora Carmack, the continuation of Garrick and Bliss’ relationship.

Keeping Her (Losing It, #1.5)

Garrick Taylor and Bliss Edwards managed to find their happily-ever-after despite a rather . . . ahem . . . complicated start. By comparison, meeting the parents should be an absolute breeze, right?

But from the moment the pair lands in London, new snags just keep cropping up: a disapproving mother-in-law-to-be, more than one (mostly) minor mishap, and the realization that perhaps they aren’t quite as ready for their future as they thought.

As it turns out, the only thing harder than finding love is keeping it.

Check out the first chapter plus some bonus Garrick POV scenes from LOSING IT.

Also, Cora Carmack is planning to donate 20% of all her royalties from this book to the charity Planting Peace for the life of the book. You can find out more about Planting Peace here:  http://www.plantingpeace.org/. Planting Peace is a progressive nonprofit organization founded for the purpose of spreading peace in a hurting world. Although the organization operates on a global level, they emphasize the power of one; the ability that each person possesses to make a difference in the world.

Cover Reveal: Geek Girl 2 + Geeky Things I Have Planned

I am absolutely BOUNCING to reveal the cover for Geek Girl 2: Model Misfit by Holly Smale!

geekgirl2

It’s everything I expected for her sequel: funny, emotional and geeky! I adore the yellow, and I love that they’ve kept a good theme with the first one. In my review for Geek Girl, I gave it 4 sofas. It is one of my favourite UKYA books, and I won’t hesistate to mention Geek Girl everywhere I go. It’s one of my most-wanted books of 2013, so I encourage you to preorder GG2 now, and go read the first one if you haven’t already!

To celebrate the geekiness that is Model Misfit, I thought I’d share with you some geeky things I’ve got planned for the rest of the year!

geeky plans

1.  In September, they are having a screening of Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark in the grounds of a local castle. I’ve never been to an outside film screening before, so I’m really excited! I’ve also not seen Indiana Jones before (I know, right) and it seems the perfect way to end the summer 🙂 Lets just hope its not raining…

2. Harry Potter Studio Tour. I attended this with one of my friends last year, but I snapped up the opportunity to go again! I don’t think I will ever get enough Harry Potter, and there is SO MUCH AWESOMENESS that you can’t really take it all it at once.

3. Bookish things! They are many amazing book-related events coming up, and I adore attending them. Not only to meet authors, but I love spending time with other bookish people, and have made some really lovely friends through these events. Some of the authors I am planning on seeing are David Levithan, Phil Earle, Sarah J Maas, RJ Palacio, Laura Jarrett, Sally Gardner, Lauren Kate and Tanya Byrne.

4. ??

This is where you help me out! What geeky events would you recommend (preferably UK based)? I’m always looking to add things to my list so I’d love to hear geeky things you have planned. Also let me know if you’ve been somewhere lately and thought it was awesome!

Blog Tour: Sylo (spotlight)

Today I am bringing you a spotlight on new end-of-the-world adventure Sylo by DJ MacHale.

SYLO (The SYLO Chronicles, #1)

Does Tucker Pierce have what it takes to be a hero when the U.S. military quarantines his island?

Fourteen-year-old Tucker Pierce prefers to fly under the radar. He’s used to navigating around summer tourists in his hometown on idyllic Pemberwick Island, Maine. He’s content to sit on the sidelines as a backup player on the high school football team. And though his best friend Quinn tells him to “go for it,” he’s too chicken to ask Tori Sleeper on a date. There’s always tomorrow, he figures. Then Pemberwick Island is invaded by a mysterious branch of the U.S. military called SYLO. And sitting on the sidelines is no longer an option for Tucker, because tomorrow may never come.

It’s up to Tucker, Quinn, and Tori to uncover the truth about the singing aircraft that appears only at night—and the stranger named Feit who’s pushing a red crystal he calls the Ruby that brings unique powers to all who take it. Tucker and his friends must rescue not just Pemberwick Island, but the fate of the world—and all before tomorrow is too late.

Book Blitz: Over The Rainbow

Welcome to the book blitz for Over the Rainbow by Brian Rowe.

Zippy Green never meant to fall in love with a girl, but when she does, her ultra-conservative father tries to send her to anti-gay camp. At the Kansas City airport, however, she hides inside a giant suitcase and sneaks onto an airplane headed not to the camp, but to Seattle, where her online love Mira lives. Halfway through the flight, the plane barrels out of control and crashes into the ground, knocking her unconscious.

When Zippy awakens, she finds that most of the passengers have vanished. She doesn’t know what’s happened, but she’s determined to find out. She begins a quest on foot toward Seattle, and along the way, she meets a teenager with a concussion, a homeless man with a heart condition, a child without a shred of bravery, and a terrier named Judy. Together the group discovers that more than two-thirds of the world’s population has mysteriously disappeared. But that’s only the beginning…

All Zippy wants is to find her Mira, but before she can she has to contend with two outside forces. The first is her homophobic father, who does everything in his power to keep her from the girl she loves. And the second is extinct creatures of all shapes and sizes, including living, breathing dinosaurs, which have replaced the missing population.

Book Blitz: Disneylanders

Welcome to my book blitz for Disneylanders by Kate Abbott.

In Disneylanders, 14-year-old Casey Allison, on the brink of starting high school, struggles to find a new identity on her family’s annual summer vacation, but with the help of an outgoing boy she meets while waiting in line, she discovers that Disneyland is the one place where her overprotective parents let her have the freedom to grow up.

Casey looks forward to her family’s annual summer vacation to Disneyland to escape her anxieties about starting high school. This summer, however, her vacation forces her to confront her parents’ ancient attitudes, getting dumped by her best friend, an intense crush, and a pack of gum-snapping girls who seem intent on ruining her vacation.

Her parents won’t accept she’s no longer a little kid, but she can’t fathom growing up to be like the bra-strap girls who seem to be following her. Worst of all, she fears that in order be accepted as “mature,” she’ll have to not only display her underwear but stop going to her beloved theme park. As she explores Disneyland—and her first romantic relationship—with Bert, the charming high school sophomore she meets, she realizes that she can overcome her real-world insecurities only when she’s in the Magic Kingdom.

As Casey and Bert banter in line for rides, they find that confessing the secrets they couldn’t share with anyone back home lets them both discover their true selves. Although they spend time in Fantasyland, they confront their real-life issues…Bert’s flaky parents, his precocious grandmother, and why he wears a watch that hasn’t worked in two years; Casey’s ex-best friend, her secret passion for old-school film photography, and her cast member crushes. By the last fireworks show, after she’s been on a wild ride of a summer vacation, Casey rediscovers herself and takes home new self confidence, along with a sentimental souvenir.

Their situation seems less than promising as they reach the town of Haven. New rules and customs must be adhered to in order to stay. Interview

Favorite childhood book?

The Velveteen Rabbit, it’s not only a beautiful story but also quite sad. Plus I love rabbits, I used to have one in college (that I snuck into my dorm room).

 What is your writing process?

I usually create a very vague outline that gets dramatically changed as the story develops. I also create character pages, so I can keep everyone straight – personalities, physical traits, family lineage.

What do you like to do besides writing?

I love to read, which probably goes without saying. I also enjoy photography, video games, traveling and just hanging out with my friends.

How did you come up with creating Cabal, the dystopian society in Aberrant? What inspired you?

The name itself, Cabal, comes from its definition. “A small group of secret plotters,” which I felt fitting for a dystopian society. I wanted the name to signify a revolution, because Cabal is not the perfect society that the government wishes and pretends it to be. I wanted Cabal to strive for Utopian but instead of being perfect, it was something else entirely.

The inspiration itself comes from most of us striving towards perfection. I don’t think there are many people that want a world without jobs, filled with homeless people that are starving. I think it’s easy to see what’s going on in society, what’s happening now and see a glimpse of the current world in its worst. It made me want to imagine a better world and then I realized how would this perfect world be flawed?

In few words, why should we read your book?

I believe Aberrant will appeal to readers who liked the suspense of The Hunger Games, the thrill-seeking tests of Divergent and the romance and unique abilities of Graceling.

Release Day Launch: Faking It

Anybody who knows me will also know how much I rave about Cora Carmack. I loved her first novel Losing It (review here) and cannot wait to read Faking It. For you lucky people in the US, you can read it today! Go forth and buy! Thankfully we don’t have to wait much longer; it is published Thursday 6th here in the UK. I cannot wait to buy a copy and devour it. I’ve also got my fingers crossed at a chance to meet her when she visits the UK next week 🙂 Thanks to Kelly from Inkslinger PR for organizing this release day launch. Oh and Happy Birthday to Cora!

Mackenzie “Max” Miller has a problem. Her parents have arrived in town for a surprise visit, and if they see her dyed hair, tattoos, and piercings, they just might disown her. Even worse, they’re expecting to meet a nice, wholesome boyfriend, not a guy named Mace who has a neck tattoo and plays in a band. All her lies are about to come crashing down around her, but then she meets Cade.

Cade moved to Philadelphia to act and to leave his problems behind in Texas. So far though, he’s kept the problems and had very little opportunity to take the stage. When Max approaches him in a coffee shop with a crazy request to pretend to be her boyfriend, he agrees to play the part. But when Cade plays the role a little too well, they’re forced to keep the ruse going. And the more they fake the relationship, the more real it begins to feel.
